Description

In Paris, Henry attended James McNeill Whistler’s Académie Carmen, where he met his future wife Grace Mitchell. They holidayed on Achill Island, Co. Mayo in 1910, moving there two years later. Henry often painted its stark scenery at dusk, preferring the quality of the light at night. A hazy full moon casts its reflection in lines upon the sea, and the subtle tonal harmonies of the mauves and blues reveal the influence of J.M. Whistler.
